Microneedling is safe for all skin tones and can help a variety of skin concerns ranging from an uneven complexion to acne scars or stretch marks.
“There is no skin type that doesn’t benefit from it,” says Dr. Sheila Nazarian, a Beverly Hills, California plastic surgeon. "You know that gorgeous glow you get after a facial that only lasts a short while? This gives you that glow, and it lasts four to six weeks.”
About an hour before treatment, your provider will apply a topical anesthetic to reduce discomfort. Then they’ll use a handheld device to make pinpricks in your skin, promoting collagen production. The entire treatment typically takes a half hour. After treatment, a serum or calming treatment will be applied to your skin.
Microneedling recovery takes about three days.
Redness will show up within 24 hours after the session. Slight swelling will be experienced in 48 to 72 hours, depending on the depth of treatment, which should be gone by the third day after treatment.
